FINALS bound Cagayan Valley kept Meralco winless following a 17-25, 25-14, 26-24, 25-21 victory in the Shakey's V-League Season 11 Foreign Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday night.
Former University of Santo Tomas standout Aiza Maizo-Pontillas delivered 18 points for the Lady Rising Suns, while Thai imports Pacharee Saengmuang and Hyapha Amporn had 16 and 10, respectively.
Cagayan ended the six-game double round elimination with a 4-2 slate and on a winning note going to its title series against unbeaten powerhouse Philippine Army (6-0).
The Lady Rising Suns and the Lady Troopers start their Finals match up on Sunday.
“Sa Finals kailangan pa kaming mag-usap usap ng mga players ko, hindi ko alam bakit ganyan (ang laro namin) 'di ko alam kung off night lang ba or hindi lang mag-connect," said Cagayan coach Nes Pamilar.
Despite finishing their campaign with a woeful 0-6 record, Pamilar reserved some good words for the Power Attackers.
“Maganda ang nilaro nila, lalo na sa blocking, sabi ko nga sa mga players ko hindi pwedeng easy-easy lang kami porke’t non-bearing dapat pa rin ibigay ang best," he said.
Wanida Kotruang had 21 points, scattered from 17 spikes, two blocks, and two service aces, for Meralco, while Paneng Mercado and Abi Marano added 11 and 10, respectively.
