MELA Tunay admitted she played without doctors’ clearance, and even her mother did not know she was set to see action ahead of schedule.
Expected to be out for a month after fracturing her nose during V-League play, Tunay surprisingly __ and even wound up among the scoring leaders in University of Sto. Tomas’ five-set win over University of the Philippines on Saturday.
“Hindi po alam ng mommy ko na maglalaro ako,” Tunay told Spin.ph after the match. “Andyan nga po siya ngayon, lagot ako.”
“Hindi ako na-release ng doctor,” she said with a silly grin. “Ang instruction sa akin tantsahin ko daw sabi ’wag na muna tatakbo, eh noong first day (Monday) hindi naman ako tumakbo, tumalon lang ako.”
But Tunay stressed that she’s feeling well and there’s nothing to worry about.

The fifth-year spiker did some light workout on Monday and said she managed to jump with ease.
Against the struggling Lady Maroons, Tunay came up with 13 points, with 11 from spikes.
“Noong Monday light workout lang nag-weights ako pero magaan lang,” shared Tunay. “As much as possible kung anong ginagawa nilang (teammates) drills ginagawa ko rin.
“Eh siguro kakagalaw ko nakatalon na ako tapos eventually nakatalon na ako,” she added.
UST romped to its fourth consecutive win for a 4-1 card.
“Gusto ko rin po talaga maglaro kasi quarters na ito eh and ’yun nga parang every game counts,” she said.
