UAAP champion National University took down another NCAA team, beating College of St. Benilde, 25-16, 25-22, 25-22, for earned its second win in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
After defeating NCAA champion University of Perpetual Help on Sunday, the Bulldogs made short work of the Blazers, with Madz Gampong leading the way with 18 points off 16 kills and two blocks including eight excellent digs.
Rookie Angelo Almendres chipped in 10 points, while Bryan Bagunas only played in the third set and added five markers.
James Natividad did not play as he prepares for UAAP Season 81 Beach Volleyball.
“Sobrang malaking bagay ito para sa kumpiyansa namin. Sana magtuloy lang ang pag-improve namin at ‘yung kumpiyansa nila,” said NU Head Coach Dante Alinsunurin said.
“Masaya kami kasi binigyan namin ng chance 'yung mga bago naming players, nag-deliver naman. Importante sa amin 'yung ganitong experience para sa mga susunod namin na laro, ready na sila,” he added.
The Bulldogs eye their third straight win against another NCAA squad Arellano University Chiefs on August 4.
Nobody scored in double figures for the Blazers with transferees from UE Vince Abrot and Ron Adviento leading the way with nine and eight points, respectively.
The Blazers, who fell to 1-1 win-loss record, try to bounce back against UST on August 5.
