LINDSEY Vander Weide might’ve been down with the flu for the last three days, but she made sure Petro Gazz wasn't going down with her.

In fact, the 27-year-old outside hitter lifted the Angels in the face of Akari’s reverse-sweep bid, scoring the last three points to cap her 22-piece in a 29-27, 25-22, 19-25, 17-25, 15-11 win on Thursday.

While Vander Weide hasn’t been carrying the scoring load alone for Petro Gazz, more so with a two-time PVL MVP in Brooke Van Sickle by her side, she particularly called for backup against the Chargers knowing that she wasn’t at 100-percent.

“I told them, ‘Girls, I'm going to need some help today.’ And I think they did that,” she said.

“Brooke had to pass a ton of balls today. I was making the libero take balls from me that normally I would pass, so I think it was really a team win.

“At the end of the day, we pulled it out. I don't love how we played in the third and fourth set, but the fact that we still won in five after losing the momentum just really shows what we can do as a team.“

Hot, hot heat for LVW

The last two days in training have been a living hell for the former champion import.

With her fever going as high as 40-degrees at one point, she was already on the fence in terms of whether she’d be fit enough to play against Akari.

That late call of pushing through and taking the floor even at half her full strength wasn’t the easiest, but was nonetheless worth the gambit.

“I’m not feeling great to be honest, but I was worse the last two days. I knew when I woke up, and I was at least feeling decent, that I was 100 percent going to play the game no matter what. I wasn't sure how great I was going to do,” she admitted.

“I think I could have done a little bit better, but for how I'm feeling right now, I'm happy that we won.”
