    Longtime teammates Valdez, Morado still bring out best in each other

    THREE years after they last won a title, Creamline duo Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado are champions again.

    The former Ateneo stars, whose last victory came in 2015 in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament, led the Cool Smashers to their first title in the Premier Volleyball League when they swept PayMaya in the best-of-three finals series in the Reinforced Conference on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

    If the game is on the line, expect Valdez to take charge - and she definitely did, but she was quick to deflect the credit.

    “Honestly, Jia keeps me calm inside and outside of the court. Even sa mga challenges off the court talaga, we make it a point na we’re there for each other,” said Valdez.

    “Jia will always be one of the greatest players here in Philippine volleyball talaga,” she added.

    Before Valdez could say any further, Morado butted in.

    “Nagsalita ang greatest player,” she said pointing to Valdez.

      For Morado, the league’s two-time best setter, being with Valdez for quite some time has taught her to be the best that she can be, whether in volleyball or in life.

      “Parang over the years talaga, since first year ko na magkasama ko, ang dami na rin naming natututunan sa isa’t isa kahit ang tagal na naming magkasama, ilang beses na kaming naglaro together,” she said.

      “Parang it’s nice to say na kaya nya akong i-push inside the court. She knows what to say para i-up ko pa yung game ko,” she added.
