    Adamson defeats St. Benilde in four to clinch semifinal spot

    ADAMSON University secured the third semifinal berth after surviving hard fighting College of Saint Benilde, 25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 31-29, on Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the Arena in San Juan.

    The Falcons and Blazers figured in a toe-to-toe duel in the fourth set that reached six deuces, with Adamson escaping with the much-needed win in one hour and 23 minutes.

    Adamson placed third in the elimination round with a 6-3 win-loss record.

    Leo Miranda scored 18, George Labang added 17 points, Pablico scattered 14 attacks and two blocks for 16 points while also coming up with eight digs, while Geoffrey Alicando added 11 markers.

    Spiker-turned- libero Kapen Pinar had 31 excellent receptions and 14 digs.

    The Falcons will battle the No. 2 seed in a best-of-three semifinals starting next week.

    Unbeaten University of Sto. Tomas (8-0) and National University (7-1) dispute the No.1 spot on Sunday at 9 a.m.

    Vince Abrot scored 20 points, as Roniey Adviento had 15 hits and Joshua De Sequera added 13 for St. Benilde.

    Despite the loss, St. Benilde stayed at fourth place with a 5-4 record and will face in a playoff the winner of the elims match between joint fifth placers FEU (4-4) and UP (4-4) on Sunday at 11 a.m.
