EYA Laure’s love for University of Santo Tomas (UST) pumped her up in leading the Tigresses to a 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 26-24 victory over University of the Philippines (UP) in their exciting showdown in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Collegiate Conference on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan City.
After she struggled in the first two sets, Laure cotinued to labor her way to find her groove in the third and midway through the set, her attack went off the mark and it fired her up.
With the opposing Lady Maroons staring down every point in their neck-and-neck duel, the prized UST rookie refused to back down and returned the favor to UP.
Ganun din turo sakin nila coach na UST tayo hindi tayo papaapi basta basta kahit sino pa ‘yan,” the 18-year-old rookie added.
Among all the rookies on their team, Laure was the lone first-year player, who was never intimidated and even led UST with 18 points off 12 kills, five service aces, and a block including six excellent receptions.
Unlike fellow rookies including UP's Nicole Magsarile, who was a former NU Lady Bullpup, in the collegiate stage, Laure is proud to play for the same team from high school to college.
Parang feeling ko sanay sila kasi UST jersey na talaga ako ever since,” she said. “So ngayon parang nakikita ko rin ‘yung improvements nila as a player kasi si Nicole hindi naman talaga siya open, quicker siya.”
Laure was No.5 trending on Twitter Philippines and the UST fans at The Arena were chanting her name “Eya! Eya! Eya!” during the game. She was flattered but what makes her happier and prouder is wearing the Tigresses jersey.
“Masarap ‘yung feeling kasi parang first time ko naranasan na ganun talaga na sobrang dami din (‘yung sumusuporta).
