ATENEO turned the match against St. Louis University into a mere workout as the Lady Eagles downed the Lady Navigators, 25-16, 25-18, 25-13, on Thursday to end the eliminations on a winning note in the V-League Season 11 First Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Kim Gequillana came up with 12 points, while fellow rookie Michelle Morente added seven for the Lady Eagles, who finished the elimination round with a 4-1 win-loss record.
Guest players Bea de Leon and Jhoanna Maraginot combined for 15 points for Ateneo, which fielded Alyssa Valdez in the first set but let the team captain sit out the rest of the match.
“Pine-prepare namin ang mga rookies para na rin pagdating ng UAAP alam nila ang gagawin nila,” said Valdez, who scored five.
The UAAP champions capitalized on SLU's poor reception, scoring 11 service aces compared to the Lady Navigators’ two points from the service line.
Arellano also holds a 4-1 record but sits on top of the standings after dealing the Lady Eagles their only loss last month.
The result of the match between Adamson (3-1) and St. Benilde (2-2) will determine the rankings for the quarterfinals in the Group A.
Krissian Tsuchiya finished with 11 points for SLU, which went winless in five matches.
