UNIVERSITY of the Philippines advanced to the semifinals with a 25-27, 23-25, 25-5, 25-18 victory over San Sebastian College on Wednesday in the V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
UP improved to a 3-2 carryover win-loss record and secured the third semis berth, joining National University and Far Eastern University.
SSC dropped to 2-3 but still has a chance to advance.
An FEU win over Ateneo will force a playoff between the Lady Eagles and the SSC belles.
A win by the Lady Eagles will earn them an automatic semifinal berth.
“I’m happy ngayon, ngayon pa na crucial so dagdag pressure sa kanila and then although nakita na may mga errors tayo na nakita halatang pressured napanalo naman,” said UP coach Jerry Yee.
Yee talked about staying motivated after the Lady Maroons limited the San Sebastian belles to five points in the third, the lowest in the conference after San Beda’s six points against FEU in the eliminations.
"Baka sila (San Sebastian) 'yung walang gana, I don't see na napaka dominating ng performance or what," said Yee. "Baka sila 'yun, not us. We played not wanting to lose. Pangit 'yun pero, 'di ba at least somehow motivated."
"Mahirap 'yung ganoon na back against the wall bago ka kikilos, hindi pwedeng one game ahead ilaro mo na ng tama para maka-execute ka ng tama," he added.
Grethcel Soltones and Denice Lim had 15 points each, while Joyce Sta. Rita added 10 for San Sebastian.
