CHOCO Mucho made a winning debut in the Premier Volleyball League, routing BaliPure, 25-12, 25-18, 25-18, on in the Open Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
Kat Tolentino had 14 points off 10 kills, two blocks and two aces as the Flying Titans, who held out the injured Bea de Leon, scored an easy win while the woes continued for the Water Defenders.
BaliPure absorbed its 11th straight loss after going winless in 10 matches in the Reinforced Conference.
Maddie Madayag had 11 points built on seven spikes, three aces and a block, while Bang Pineda added eight markers. Acy Masangkay dished out 18 excellent sets on top of 13 digs and two markers.
“We’re happy na we won on our first game. Sabi ko nga sa kanila sa huddle, normally people will say first game jitters,” said Choco Mucho head coach Oliver Almadro. “But sabi ko sa kanila, ‘Mawawala yun if you play maturely. So we really have to play maturely and we really have to stick together and be one.’”
Former La Salle star Manilla Santos-Ng returned to action after 10 years, scoring on a service ace in the first set.
The Water Defenders’ problems continued as they committed 28 errors.
Nobody scored in double figures, with Menchie Tubiera and Grazielle Bombita leading the way with nine markers each.
