MONTALBAN, Rizal — Jyne Soreño has long played second fiddle to Shevana Laput back in the UAAP as La Salle’s second-choice opposite hitter.
Now in the pros with Chery Tiggo, the eighth-overall pick of the 2025 PVL Draft is out to complete unfinished business from her college days.
The end goal in it all for Soreno is to seize her time to shine as Chery Tiggo’s top-choice winger.

“Yung hindi ko nagawa [sa UAAP] is parang yung lack of performance nga nung nasa college pa,” Soreño told SPIN.ph.
“Ngayon, may pinaghuhugutan talaga ako na it's time to shine.”
La Salle’s former second-stringer spiker had her first shining moment under the rainy Rizal skies as she posted 15 points on 14 attacks and one block in Chery Tiggo’s four-set rout of Capital1.
Amid all the adjustments she had to go through in transitioning from college to the pros, one thing has stayed constant for the 5-foot-9 Negrense spiker.
The winning DNA from being a Lady Spiker and having seasoned veteran Aby Marano as her captain in the pros has so far made life in the PVL an all-too familiar ride for Soreño.
“For me, wala naman [masyadong nagbago] kasi from La Salle to Chery, parang same pa rin yung sistema, yung training and also galing din po si ate Aby [Marano] sa La Salle,” Soreño said.
“Same pa rin yung sistema ng La Salle and yung culture na yun [through] ate Aby [kaya] sobrang thankful talaga ako kasi galing from Coach Ramil, nandun talaga yung pagtitibay talaga ng loob.
“Kaya ngayo, ready na talaga akong i-apply lahat dito sa UAAP. Bago pa lang ako umalis [sa La Salle], ready na talaga.”
