IT’S back to square one for Judith Abil after parting ways with Cignal just weeks before the start of the 2026 PVL season.

The Super Spikers officially bid farewell to their energetic spark plug on Friday.

Abil joined Cignal in free agency in July 2024, roughly a year after being released by Nxled.

She was among the participants in the two-day free agent combine that same year, held as part of the league’s inaugural draft-related activities.

The former University of the East standout was picked up by head coach Shaq delos Santos and was initially deployed in an unfamiliar role as a libero before returning to her natural position as an outside hitter.

Despite the positional shift, the 27-year-old quickly made her presence felt, even earning a Player of the Game citation as a libero while filling in for multi-awarded Alas Pilipinas co-captain Dawn Macandili-Catindig.

Abil’s first two conferences with Cignal proved fruitful, as the Super Spikers secured back-to-back podium finishes.

She captured her first PVL medal with a bronze in the 2024 Reinforced Conference, then followed it up with a silver in the succeeding Invitational Conference.

That momentum, however, proved difficult to sustain as Cignal went on to place ninth, fourth, fifth and seventh in Abil’s final four conferences with the team, marking the franchise’s longest medal drought since joining the PVL in 2021.

Now a free agent once more, Abil is eyeing a new landing spot before the month ends. The 2026 All-Filipino Conference opens on January 30.
