UNIVERSITY of the Philippines grabbed a share of third spot in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 win over College of Saint Benilde on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
The Maroons scored their second straight win to improve to 4-2, tying the Adamson Falcons.
John Mark Millette topscored with 17 points, 16 coming from attacks, and had seven digs, while skipper Jerry San Pedro delivered 10 hits and had eight excellent receptions.
Libero Miguel Nasol had 15 excellent receptions and 13 digs, while Jerahmeel Baldelovar made 21 excellent sets on top of four markers.
"Bihira yung ganitong chance na makakalaban mo ‘yung NCAA teams. We need to make the most of such opportunity,” said UP coach Hans Chuacuco.
The Maroons brace for a tough battle against unbeaten UST (5-0) on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Vince Abrot was the lone double-digit scorer for College of St. Benilde, finishing with 16 points as the Blazers committed 29 errors. The Blazers saw their two-match win streak end, dropping to joint fifth place with a 3-3 record with Far Eastern University.
St. Benilde seeks to bounce back against La Salle (2-4), which stopped NU’s five-game unbeaten run, on Saturday at 6 p.m.
