Perpetual Altas defeat Arellano Chiefs to halt three-match skid

NCAA champion University of Perpetual Help asserted its mastery of Arellano University, 25-16, 27-25, 24-26, 25-20, on Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the Arena in San Juan.

Season 93 Rookie-MVP Joebert Almodiel had 14 kills, two blocks and an ace for 17 points and led the team’s floor defense with 21 receptions and 15 digs.

Perpetual ended its three-match skid while dealing NCAA runner-up Arellano its seventh straight loss.

Ridzuhan Muhali scored 15, Ronniel Rosales delivered 13 markers, while skipper John Patrick Ramos and Louie Ramirez added 12 each for Perpetual Help. Gabriel Casana had 35 excellent sets on top of four points.

Despite committing 34 errors in the match, the Altas survived by overpowering Arellano with a 61-45 differential on attacks and a 12-6 disparity in blocking.

Perpetual Help improved with a 2-5 win-loss record, forcing a triple tie at seventh place with La Salle and San Beda.

The Altas battle the Green Spikers on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Christian Dela Paz sat out due to ankle injury. Demmy Lapuz stepped up with 16 points, while Roi Domingo had 12 hits and made 14 receptions and nine digs for Arellano.

The Chiefs take on unbeaten UST (6-0) on Wednesday at 8 a.m.
