JOHANNA Maraguinot continued to show the way as Alyssa Valdez saw action just a week after an Ateneo coach said she is likely to sit out the tournament, coming up with five points in the Lady Eagles’ 25-17, 25-13, 25-21 victory over San Sebastian on Sunday in the V-League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Maraguinot, the star of the opening-day match against University of Santo Tomas, led Ateneo again, scoring 13.
Kim Gequillana added 11 as the Lady Eagles joined College of St. Benilde at the top spot in Group B with 2-0 win-loss records.
Two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Valdez was fielded in the third set.
Substitute setter Gizelle Tan, taking over from the injured Jia Morado, registered all of the Lady Eagles’ 14 excellent sets compared to SSC team total of five.
Denice Kim and Jolina Labiano each had nine markers for SSC, winless in two matches.
Gretcel Soltones, still recovering from a shoulder injury, again played as a libero, seeing action in the second and third sets.
