JHOANA Maraguinot remained positive despite losing in her first game back from injury, saying she expects the Ateneo Lady Eagles to regroup in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference Finals.
The incoming third-year hitter was cleared in time to play in the opener of the best-of-three finals against National University after being out for almost four months due to a stress fracture on her left leg.
"Super happy ako na finally nakalaro na uli ako," said Maraguinot, the anointed successor of longtime Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez. "Kasi I've been waiting for this for almost four months na."
"I' was not really sure pero sinabi sa akin ni Doc na it's close na daw so kailangan lang palakasin para hindi bumalik," she added.
Maraguinot did not disappoint in her first game back, scoring nine points in the Lady Eagles' 21-25, 25-19, 24-23, 18-25, 16-18 loss to the Lady Bulldogs on Monday night at the Philsports Arena.
Although disappointed, Maraguinot was glad to pitch in for the Lady Eagles.
"Before pa mag-start ang Shakey's V-League, sabi ko gawan ko ng paraan na kahit paano makatulong sa team," she said. "For me, gagawin ko lahat for the team kahit anong mangyari, kahit gaano ako kahina, gagawin ko lahat."
Maraguinot remained optimistic about the Lady Eagles’ chances, saying she expects the team to survive another do-or-die test in Game Two, just as it had time and again done in the run-up to the finale.
"We'll keep on fighting, parang kapit lang kasi nakailang do-or-die na din kami so lalaban at lalaban," she said.
