ZUS Coffee may have brewed its best start to a PVL campaign at 2-0 in the 2025 Reinforced Conference, but there’s one person in that team who won’t be making too much of a fuzz about it.
No other than its’ ever-so soft-spoken head coach Jerry Yee was the first to play down their surprising ascent in the early goings of import-laden play.

With its American reinforcement Anna DeBeer second in the league in scoring (55 points) and third in spiking (41.32 percent success rate), it’s all going by design so far for Yee and the young Thunderbelles.
But as it often goes in pro sports, a team is only as good as its last game — more so in a two-month tournament where games go by in a flash.
“Sorry kung killjoy ako pero hindi ko iniisip din eh. Every game, bago sa’min. Every game, importante. Cliche no, pero ‘yun talaga eh,” Yee told SPIN.ph.
“Kumbaga kung sino ‘yung nandyan, tatrabaho tayo. Kung maganda ‘yung performance, good. Kung hindi, natuto tayo.”
Such a no-nonsense approach has so far worked wonders for an unscathed ZUS Coffee side and he intends to keep it that way.
“Honestly, for me, wala lang. Kung lulusot, lulusot. Ganun lang ang mentality ko eh,” Yee said. “Lahat ‘yan, mahirap kalaban, may imports ‘yan eh. Nasa sa’min na ‘yan kung magiging dominante o may upper hand ka.”
What sparked this turnaround for the cellar dwellers-turned-rising contenders is how they’ve somehow adopted Yee’s calm demeanor in their own gameplay — one typified by composure with a purpose.
“Mas relaxed na sila eh. Mas nae-execute na nila ‘yung mga pinag-uusapan. ‘Yung ginagawa sa practice, mas nag-aappear na sa games,” he said.
