COLLEGE of Saint Benilde’s new head coach Jerry Yee said it will take a 'change in culture' to turn around the Lady Blazers' fortunes in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Collegiate Conference.
“Maraming kailangan baguhin. The culture itself, yung basics natin, ‘yung how they understand the game and paano ‘yung flow,” said Yee after the Lady Blazers' fightback against Far Eastern University fell short, 19-25, 30-32, 25-15, 26-24, 4-15, on Sunday.
“Nakita natin yung crucial nag-error tayo ng nag-error. Marami tayo kailangan i-improve,” he added, pointing to St. Benilde’s 47 errors in the match.
But Yee draws hope from the way the Lady Blazers fought back from a two-set deficit.
“Well, may mga small points na we were looking at, ‘yung mga first touches natin sa depensa at opensa, hindi naman tayo nage-error doon. Sabi natin sa girls, very happy na ako sa ganoon,” he said.
After being absent from the collegiate scene since he last coached the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in UAAP Season 79, Yee, who started calling the shots for CSB in April, said he is also getting used to a different culture in the league.
“I have no idea, nagtatanong tanong na ako, nakikipagkwentuhan sa mga coach. Hindi ko pa nae-experience so wala pa kong masyadong comment about it. Right now we’re just focused on preparing the team. Hopefully, maganda showing namin,” said.
