MENTAL toughness will be the key, according to coach Jerry Yee, as College of St. Benilde tries to stay in semifinals contention in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference.
CSB faces University of Perpetual Help at 4 p.m. on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Coming off a four-set win over also-ran San Sebastian College, Yee is hoping the Lady Blazers can hold their nerves in the crucial match.
“Sa brighter side na lang tayo magfocus, so kahit papaano nakuha natin ‘yung panalo,” he said.
“Psychological naman ‘yung panalo namin eh, ‘pag nakakakita kami ng nakakatakot na team, natatakot kami. So we have to get over that,” he added.
CSB is tied with San Beda University at the No. 5 spot with a 2-4 win-loss record, behind University of the Philippines (3-3).
The Lady Blazers will be up against their former coach Macky Cariño, now in charge of the Lady Altas. Yee said that doesn’t matter for the Lady Blazers.
“Well ever since kasi, ako, I’d rather not focus on them. I’d rather focus on us so ‘yung executions namin, ‘yung mistakes namin, ‘yung psyche namin we have to improve,” he said.
“Pagalingan talaga ‘yan, pagalingan ng execution so it doesn’t matter kung ano ang meron ang kabilang team, what matters is you have to be prepared,” he added.
