CREAMLINE closed in on a sweep of the PVL Open Conference eliminations, beating BanKo, 25-22, 27-25, 25-14, on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.

MVP candidate Jema Galanza continued her fine play to lead the way for Creamline, scoring 14 points and making 16 excellent receptions and 14 digs.

Creamline was without Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado, who joined the Philippine women’s volleyball team that will train in Japan, but still scored the quick win to improve their record to 15-0.

Michele Gumabao and Rosemarie Vargas had 12 points each for the Cool Smashers, who are one win away from a sweep of the eliminations.

Pau Soriano had 11 markers, while setter Kyle Negrito had 17 excellent sets on top of six markers.

“Proud ako sa mga teammates ko lalo na sa mga nagstep-up talaga wala akong masabi kasi actually nandoon yung kaba namin sa BanKo,” said Galanza. “Alam namin kung paano maglaro yung BanKo most of their players veterans habang kami may mga umalis.”

It was a dominant 15th victory for the Cool Smashers, except for the second set where they went down 9-16 to the Perlas Spikers, before prevailing in one hour and 24 minutes.

“Si coah Tai hindi kami pinepressure basta ang sabi niya lang maging happy kami at magrelax kami,” Galanza said. “Kasi nung second set ang tigas namin gumalaw wala kaming communication so hinanap lang namin yung rhythm namin hanggang sa magtuloy tuloy.”

BanKo finished the eliminations with 10-6 win-loss record dropping to fourth place although the seeding will still depend on the remaining elimination-round match.

If the Cool Smashers complete an elimination round sweep, Motolite will be the No. 4 team while BanKo climbs to third place to face second seed Petro Gazz.
