AS tough as Petro Gazz's first loss was, Janisa Johnson believes that the loss to Creamline on Saturday could only work for the better as the Angels look ahead to the playoffs of the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

"It happens. We put up a fight, but I guess we know we could have done more," she said.

Even before the defeat, Johnson said that PetroGazz already knew the things it needed to fix stemming from its game against BanKo-Perlas last June 12, when it dropped its first set of the season.

"We knew what our struggles were. We realized them even before the loss but of course, it hits home when you have your first loss," said the American reinforcement.

Local support has been the most evident weakness for the Angels, especially in this loss to the Cool Smashers where outside of Johnson and Cuban import Wilma Salas -- who combined for 45 points, no one else scored more than five markers.

"In this game, they took over more than our usual (game), but we know what we need to work on and make a quick turnaround. Hopefully, this game makes us realize that we can't slack off and you know, we can't let our errors get the best of us," she said.

Also hurting them were the 31 errors they committed, none more painful than in the fourth set in Janisa Johnson's service ace-turned-miscue as the ball sailed from the Creamline side to libero Cienne Cruz and then outside that put the Cool Smashers up, 21-20.

"Those plays happen, and bad timing when it does happen. But I mean, what can you do? You can't go back in time and you know, change it so just look back at it and just laugh," she said.

As somber as the mood was inside the PetroGazz dugout, Johnson urged her teammates to move forward from the defeat, with the game against PacificTown-Army set on Sunday at Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.

"We're bummed out, but we still have a good record in the season. We're down but we're not letting it defeat us," she said. "The season's not over yet. This is a push for us that we needed, so hopefully for the next games that carries over."
