JANINE Marciano stepped up for Cagayan Valley in the absence of skipper Angeli Tabaquero as the Lady Rising Suns defeated National University, 26-24, 25-22, 27-25, on Tuesday in the Shakey's V-League Season 11 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The former San Beda standout came up with 16 points and had eight digs as Tabaquero sat out the match with a hyperextended left knee.
Aiza Maizo had 11 points and Wenneth Eulalio added 11 markers as Cagayan moved to fourth spot with a 2-1 win-loss card.
The Lady Rising Suns were already at match point, 24-20, when the Lady Bulldogs rallied to tie the contest, but Cagayan held on and scored three of the last four points to finish the match.
Jaja Santiago and Myla Pablo made 17 and 16 markers, respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs, who suffered their second loss in three matches and dropped to fifth spot with Ateneo.
PLDT leads with a 4-0 record followed by Army at 3-0 and Air Force at 3-1.
