NATIONAL University completed a sweep of the round-robin quarterfinals with as 23-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-19 victory over University of the Philippines on Monday in the V-League Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
Jaja Santiago scored 21 points and Aiko Urdas added 20 as NU ended the quarterfinals with a 4-1 win-loss record.
Diana Carlos scored 12 points, while Kathy Bersola added 11 for UP, dropped to 2-2 to match San Sebastian College.
“Sobrang malaking bagay sa amin ang maka-sweep, nakapagdagdag na ng morale kahit papano is kumbaga magiging positive na ang thinking ng mga bata, maganda na ’yun para sa amin,” said NU assistant coach Edjet Mabbayad.
Jorelle Singh added 11 markers as the Lady Bulldogs survived an error-filled match that lasted an hour and 41 minutes.
NU had 60 attack points against the 46 of UP and had more blocks, 9-2, but the Lady Maroons earned 36 points off the Lady Bulldogs’ errors.
“First set ang unforced error namin is 12 so doon pa lang makikita na talo na,” said Mabbayad.
“In-inform ko sila sa mga nangyari sa first set, especially sa mga unforced error ‘yung service error namin tatlo tapos ‘yung mga bumabagsak na bola so naging aware naman sila doon.”
