AKARI made quick work of hapless Capital1 with a 25-9, 25-17, 26-24 sweep in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Philsports Arena.
Ivy Lacsina showed the way as Akari’s leading scorer this conference with 15 attack points.
The Chargers racked up back-to-back wins, improving to 5-4 with two matches left in the preliminary round.
Capital1 slid further down the pack with its fourth straight loss and a 1-7 record, tied for 10th with Galeries Tower.
Eli Soyud's resurgence was still strongly felt for the Chargers with a 12-point, five-dig night.
While newest Solar Spiker Trisha Genesis continues to deliver instant impact on offense, this time with a team-best 14 markers, it still wasn't enough to break Capital1's dry spell.
Learning from the field
For Akari head coach Taka Minowa, the remainder of prelims play is more than just making up for lost ground after a series of sorry losses in 2024.
In fact, this latest win over Capital1 was Akari's first straight-sets win of the conference.
May it be against title contenders or cellar dwellers, Minowa wants to the Chargers to pick the minds of the rest of the PVL field to make them a more formidable unit moving forward.
"Win or lose, it doesn’t matter. What I’m explaining (to the players is) we need to learn from Capital1 with what they are showing [with their] fighting spirit," said Minowa
"Sometimes, we are missing (our character) like even if we are not a championship team, it’s just last conference we made to the championship, we need to act and look like a champion team.
"We just need to be more humble and to be focused on our improvement."
