BATANGAS City — Iriga-Navy registered its first back-to-back win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, defeating Tacloban, 25-20, 15-25, 27-25, 25-23, on Sunday at Batangas City Coliseum.
Nene Bautista had 13 points and 17 excellent receptions, while Joanne Bunag scored 12 and Florence Madulid and team captain Grazielle Bombita each had 10 markers for the Lady Oragons, who improved to 3-7.
Iriga-Navy, which beat Adamson-Akari in straight sets on Saturday, have won three of its last four matches.
“Medyo nakakasawa na rin ‘yung standing namin noong first round palagi kaming nasababa, palagi kaming talo,” said Iriga-Navy coach Edgar Rusit. “Kaya ngayon sabi ko time na para magstart na tuluy-tuloy na.”
Down 24-25 in the third set Bombita bailed out the Lady Oragons with three straight points to regain the momentum.
Bombita pushed Iriga-Navy at match point, 24-23, before her attack went wide to give hope to Tacloban but she immediately made up for her miscue with a down the line hit that sealed the win.
Dimdim Pacres scored 18 for Tacloban, skipper Jovielyn Prado had 13 and Mary Anne Esguerra chipped in 12.
The Fighting Warays, whose two-game winning run was hated, slid to 4-5 tied with Pocari Sweat.
