IRIGA-Navy import Macy Ubben had an impressive debut in the Premier Volleyball League but insisted that she can still do better.
The American import, who was a former US NCAA Division 1 player, led the Lady Uragons in their return to the PVL, defeating BaliPure-NU, 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
“I think I can still do better,” said Ubben, who finished with 27 points, from 18 attacks, seven of the team’s 11 blocks and two aces, 13 digs and 15 excellent receptions.
Ubben, a former member of the University of Northern Iowa, stressed that she couldn’t have done it without her teammates.
“It was a good first try but it really helps when you have your whole team around you, behind you, cheering you on. I can't set myself. So just to have that team behind you helped me a lot,” she said.
Coming from a year hiatus, Ubben, along with her fellow American import Lauren Whyte, hope to help Iriga-Navy in anyway that they can.
“I think having the two imports that we have, me and Lauren is really beneficial. We're bringing a new style of play, and a new type of play to Iriga and the Navy,” she said.
“So not only are they teaching us things, but hopefully we're also helping and teaching them,” she added.
Iriga-Navy will face PayMaya on Wednesday.
