HEATHER Guino-o and Kyle Negrito are eager to play well in the PVL Open Conference, hoping to lift new team Tacloban to a better finish and at the same time get over Far Eastern University’s loss in the collegiate conference finals.

Despite the lack of training with Tacloban, Guino-o and Negrito came up with solid performances as the Fighting Warays beat Iriga-Navy Lady Oragons in straight sets on Wednesday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.

It was the first victory for the Fighting Warays after a straight-sets loss to Petro Gazz.

“Siguro po yung naging pagkakaiba po yung ngayon mas sumunod kami sa pinapagawa ng coaches namin compared nung first game tsaka siyempre hindi kami kaagad nagclick kasi hindi po kami kaagad nakapagsama sama sa ensayo,” said Guino-o, who led the way with 13 points including 11 digs same as the production of Tacloban skipper Jovielyn Prado.

“Siguro andito pa po yung eagerness namin na manalo kasi galing po kami sa PVL Collegiate Conference din so nadala din po namin ngayon,” added Guino-o, who also led the Fighting Warays in scoring in the opening match with nine points.

“As in two days before ng conference tsaka lang kami nakumpleto ata,” she said.

“At least this time, kahit papaano may experience na kami from before na nakasama ko na sila so this time parang hindi na rin ako nahirapan magadjust kumbaga nagfocus na lang kami sa jelling pa ng buong team.”

Guino-o said focus for now is with the Fighting Warays, eighth in the Reinforced Conference, even as she looks forward to FEU’s stint in the UAAP Season 81 next year.

“Niremind kami ni coach Nes Pamilar na pag sinabing Tacloban parang mga palaban yang tao,” Guino-o said. “So parang siyempre doon pa lang sa word na Fighting Warays madadala na po kami gusto namin maitayo yung pangalang Tacloban Fighting Warays.”

“Siyempre ibibigay ko palagi yung pinakabest ko na maitutulong ko sa bawat game na dumadaan kung ano talaga yung magagawa ko and macocontribute ko talagang all out,” Negrito concluded.

The 20-year-old outside hitter added that she is motivated to do better after FEU was swept by University of the Philippines in the collegiate conference finals.

“Siyempre po nandun pa din yun sakit pero hindi namin kailangan isipin na, hindi kami pwede magpadala doon sa pagkatalong yun kailangan maging motivation namin yun para mas mapakita pa namin yung best namin,” Guino-o said.

      Negrito agreed.

“Actually, masakit pero ngayon naman tanggap ko na nakamove on na kami kahit papaano,” the setter said.

“Siyempre kung magstuck kami doon sa nangyari sa amin kami rin yung mahihirapan, kami rin hindi uusad so forget na and move on.”
