SAN Sebastian College boosted its bid for a semifinal spot and dashed University of Santo Tomas’ hopes, 25-20, 25-18, 16-25, 25-19, on Wednesday in the Shakey's V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
Grethcel Soltones led all scorers despite playing with a fever, coming up with 23 points as the San Sebastian belles improved their carryover win-loss record to 2-1.
UST miss the V-League semifinals for the first time, bowing out with a 0-4 card.
The Tigresses were without EJ Laure and Cherry Rondina, who are with Super Liga team Foton in Thailand for a club tournament.
Malazo heaved a sigh of relief when San Sebastian recovered from a dismal third set, taking an 8-4 lead in the fourth and never looking back.
Katherine Villegas and Joyce Sta. Rita had nine markers apiece for San Sebastian, which needed an hour and 46 minutes to finish the match.
UST high school star and guest player Eya Laure scored 16 points for the Tigresses, while Ria Meneses added 11.
