SAN Sebastian College secured a spot in the quarterfinals after surviving a tough Technological Institute of the Philippines squad, 25-22, 13-25, 25-18, 16-25, 15-7, on Monday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
Grethcel Soltones scored 28 points, 26 on attacks,SSC ended the eliminations with a 3-1 win-loss record to top Group A and book the first spot in the next round.
The SSC belles started the fifth set with a 3-0 spurt and never looked back.
“Sabi ko lang sa kanila no pressure pero kailangan din namin ng momentum para sa next round,” said San Sabastian College coach Clint Malazo, calling the shots as head coach Roger Gorayeb is on a vacation.
“Kung titignan, positive naman. Alam mo ang pakiramdam, alam mo kung hanggang saan ang team, natest lang ang character ng mga bata,” said Malazo.
“Positive na rin ang effect sa team para alam mo kung kaya ba nila ang pressure,” he added.
Denice Lim and Katherine Villegas scored 11 points each, while Joyce Sta. Rita added 10 for SSC. Libero Alyssa Eroa had 32 digs and 17 excellent receptions in a match that took two hours to finish.
Guest player Mylene Paat scored 17 points, while Alyssa Layug and Eden Maturan combined for 23 markers for the Lady Engineers, who fell to 2-2 but are assured of at least a playoff for a quarterfinals spot.
