SAN Sebastian College skipper Grethcel Soltones pointed to no one but themselves after their loss to University of the Philippines, 25-27, 25-23, 5-25, 18-25, in their quarterfinals match in the V-League Collegiate Conference on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.
After the Lady Stags evened the match in the second set, the Recto-based spikers simply gave up in the third. To make matters worse, UP coach Jerry Yee admitted that his team did nothing special to win the set lopsidedly.
But Soltones was the first to reveal the reason for their collapse.
“Kami ang may problema talaga doon sa loob. Ang hirap i-angat ng bawat isa kung ikaw mismo sarili mo hindi mo maiangat,” said the Lady Stags captain, who did not hide her anger.
“Nainis ako, hindi na ako nagsalita, hinyaan ko na lang si coach (Clint Malazo). Kasi wala na rin akong magagawa at si coach din wala na ring magawa,” she added.
San Sebastian had a total of 34 errors in the match, including nine in the third set, where they only had three attacks.
Fortunately for the Lady Stags, they’re not yet out of the semis race. San Sebastian will face Ateneo in a playoff match on Saturday to arrange a best-of-three semis against top-seed Far Eastern University.
“Go hard na kami sa Saturday,” vowed Soltones, who will turn 21 on Monday.
