GODFREY Okumu will take over the reins for Galeries Tower following the end of Lerma Giron’s two-year coaching tenure.
The Highrisers welcomed a ‘familiar face and trusted leader’ as their new head coach hours after parting ways with Giron.

The Kenyan mentor, formerly a national team player, has been with Galeries Tower from the very beginning since 2023 as an assistant coach.
Prior to this, he was also head coach of the University of the Philippines women’s volleyball team from 2017 to 2022.
Okumu back in charge
As far as the PVL goes, this won’t be Okumu’s first rodeo.
In fact, he is already a PVL champion head coach with the Fighting Maroons back in the penultimate edition of the Collegiate Conference in 2018.

Okumu had a hand in coaching a non-collegiate PVL team a year later with Motolite in the 2019 Open Conference. Now-Galeries Tower setter Fhen Emnas was also part of this team.
He switched places with eventual Power Builders head coach Airess Padda and was named as one of her deputie in import-laden play that same year.
Okumu now faces a tall order in lifting the Highrisers back into playoff contention, starting with the 2025 Reinforced Conference in October.
Galeries Tower has finished 10th place or lower in four of the five conferences it took part in over the last two years, with only five wins in 49 matches played.
