WITH University of the Philippines in midtable in the final stretch of the Premier Volleyball League eliminations, coach Godfrey Okumu is hoping to get more from his players, particularly top hitter Isa Molde.
Okumu believes they should be in a better position than fourth spot with a 3-2 win-loss card.
“She tried a lot but as a coach I still expect more,” said the Kenyan coach after Molde’s 18-point 11-dig performance in a three-set win over College of St. Benilde on Wednesday.
In five outings, Molde averaged 13.4 points with a 25.37 success rate in attacks, and Okumu noted she is not playing to her potential.
“There’s a reason they’re called outside spikers because they get the balls outside of the system,” he added.
“I expect more from Isa and the other outside spikers,” he said. “They’re not up to their standard.”
Okumu hopes to see improvements as UP faces third-running Far Eastern University on Saturday.
UST is on top with a 5-0 record, with Adamson in second at 4-0.
“I hope with the weekend coming they’ll be ready to push to their required standard,” he said.
