    FEU rips St. Benilde in playoff for last spot in PVL semifinals

    FAR Eastern University made short work of College of St. Benilde, 25-19, 25-20, 25-18, on Wednesday to bag the last semifinal berth in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the Arena in San Juan.

    The Tamaraws needed only 58 minutes to dispatch the Blazers in the playoff after the teams finished the eliminations tied for fourth at 5-4.

    John Paul Bugaoan and Peter Quiel led the Tams in attacking and blocking as FEU arranged set a best-of-three series with UAAP rivals and top seed National University Bulldogs (8-1) starting on Saturday. University of Sto. Tomas and Adamson University battle in the other semifinal.

    Bugaoan had 15 points off 11 attacks and four blocks, while Quiel scattered eight kills and three blocks for 11 points.

    Raymond Bautista and Mark Callado had six markers apiece.

    The Blazers committed 28 errors and only nailed 29 kills out of their 102 attempts for a 28.43 percent success rate compared to the Tamaraws, who were 35-for-86 (40.70 %) in attacking.

    Vince Abrot was only 6 for 32 in spiking and was limited to eight points, while Francis Basilan was the lone double-digit scorer for the Blazers with 10 points.
