FAR Eastern University started its V-League Collegiate Conference campaign with a quick win, downing NCAA titleholder College of St. Benilde, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18, on Monday at PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
With an intact core from the Final Four squad last season in the UAAP, the Bernadeth Pons-led Lady Tams proved too much for the Lady Blazers.
Pons scored 11 points with eight attacks as FEU joined NCAA runner-up San Sebastian in the early lead in Group B.
Skipper Remy Palma and Toni Basas addec 10 markers each for the Lady Tamaraws.
“For us naman not totally bago, kasi setter lang ‘yung nawalang and ‘yung dalawa naman alam naman natin na magtatrabaho and kailangan ma-expose na rin,” said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos referring to Kyle Negrito and Negrito and Angelica Cayuna.
Cayuna registered 19 of the team’s 36 excellent sets.
FEU which needed an hour and 19 minutes to complete the win, scoring 10 on blocks against four by St. Benilde.
Jeanette Panaga had seven points for St. Benilde.
