FAR Eastern University arranged a finals showdown with National University in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate Conference after disposing of Adamson, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18, at The Arena in San Juan on Monday night.
The Lady Tamaraws overcame an early one-set deficit in Game Three to reach the finals for the first time in three years. They start a three-game series against the Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday.
Bernadette Pons, who missed the team's four games - its last two in the eliminations and first two in the best-of-three semifinals to represent FEU in UAAP beach volleyball, scored 15 points while providing the leadership for the Lady Tamaraws.
Czarina Carandang added a team-high 16 points and Toni Rose Bases contributed 10 as FEU returned to the finals for the first time since winning the V-League Season 11 title behind a team led by Rachel Anne Daquis and Jovelyn Gonzaga.
“Sabi ko nga sa mga players ko, kailangan ang labanan dito, kung sino ‘yung may desire to win, tsaka ‘yung kumbaga matagal na silang magkakasama, matagal ng magkakalaban eh,” said FEU coach George Pascua.
“Kumbaga ‘yung willingness nila, tsaka ang labanan na lang dito ay ‘yung character nila at ‘yung puso nila, kung paano lumaban. Kasi ‘yung skill level, pantay-pantay. At siyempre si Pons, andito siya, malaking bagay,” he added.
Ely Soyud scored all her points from 16 attacks out of 68 attempts in all of the four sets she played as a starter for Adamson. Chiara Permentilla contributed 10 markers.
Adamson started the conference with six straight wins but ended with back-to-back losses.
