JOVELYN Gonzaga suffered a double whammy with losses by Pacifictown-Army in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference and Cignal in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference.
On Tuesday at the Cadiz City Arena, Gonzaga scored four points in just two sets as Cignal got beaten by F2 Logistics, the team's second straight defeat in four matches in the PSL.
The star opposite spiker, arrived on Wednesday morning in Manila and played in the afternoon, finishing with four points on top of 12 digs and 11 excellent receptions in a four-set loss to Creamline in Game 1 of their best-of-three semifinals at The Arena in San Juan City.
Gonzaga admitted that she’s worn out playing for two club leagues but has no choice since she is an Army personnel and is under contract with Cignal.
“'Yun na 'yun eh, parang I don’t have a choice. ‘Pag sinasabihan nila ako na, ‘Nakakapagod naman ang ginagawa mo’ if I only have a choice, pipiliin ko na magpahinga but I don’t have a choice,” she said.
“Pagod, tao lang rin naman ako na napapagod.”
The grind is not yet done as Gonzaga will fly back to Negros Occidental in Silay City on Thursday morning for Cignal’s evening match against Generika-Ayala, then flies back to Manila on Friday for Army's do-or-die Game 2 against Creamline on Saturday at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.
The Ilongga spiker admitted that she can no longer join practices of her club teams.
“Hindi ako nakaka-ensayo. Both sides naman naiintindihan ang situation ko. I’m embracing the situation. Yun na lang ang ginagawa ko ngayon,” she said.
It may be too tiring for Gonzaga, who has recovered from an ACL injury two years ago, but she is just enjoying the rare opportunity of playing in both leagues.
“Ang goal ko kasi, I have to enjoy one game at a time. Ayoko kasing pressurin ang sarili ko. The more ko na pe-pressurin ang sarili ko, the more na magawa ko ang mga bagay beyond may limit, baka ibuwis buhay ko na naman,” Gonzaga said.
“This time I’m at the point na kung ano lang ang kaya ko, 'yun muna ang ipapakita ko. I have to overcome each day. Kailangan ko lang ma-survive ang araw. Kailangan ko lang mai-survive ko yung laro ko na I’m safe.”
With the Lady Troopers fighting for dear life on Saturday, Gonzaga said, “Alam naman natin na ang Creamline is a top-caliber na kalaban. Alam mo yung pareho kaming nagta-trabaho and sila nagta-trabaho rin naman,” Gonzaga said.
“Siguro it’s a matter ng mga breaks of the game. Lumalabas din ang galing ng team. Siguro hindi talaga para sa amin.“
