THE Farm Fresh Foxies are showing their rebuilding process is in the right direction after scoring their first win of the season and appear ready to leave the nightmare of the past season during which they won just two games.
But two games into the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference , the Foxies are 1-1 and their loss was against reigning champion Creamline. They went down fighting against the league favorite during which they took the first set, 36-34, then battled the Cool Smashers to two more thrilling sets before eventually losing, 25-23, 25-22, 25-15, last Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The two games have naturally invigorated Farm Fresh which acquired nine players during a frenzied off-season hiring. Because of this, they are trying to build team chemistry, and it appears to be going well.
For sophomore spiker Trisha Tubu, the past few months have allowed the Foxies to know each other at a much more personal level as they’ve begun living under the same roof.
“Ngayon po kasi, kasama na po namin yung mga dati naming kasama tapos more connections, more training, more practices, magkakasama rin kami sa bahay, so ‘yung confidence namin sa galaw namin, talagang tumaas,” said Tubu.
Louie Romero credited how big of a boost it has been to welcome more experienced aces such as Caitlyn Viray and Jolina Dela Cruz to the team.
And as senior figures continue to boost the Foxies’ young core, Romero shared how their guidance helped the Foxies’ undergraduate players.
“Given na may mga ates [veteran players in the team], talagang gina-guide nila kami kasi rookie year kami [tuwing] marami kaming struggles like 'yung sa iba may mga pasok pa. So 'yung mga ates 'yung nag ga-guide sa amin kasi marami na silang experience. Ginagabayan naman nila kami,” Romero said.
