ATENEO copped the bronze medal of the PVL Collegiate Conference, completing a series sweep of College of St. Benilde with a 25-20, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19 victory on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan.
Faith Nisperos nailed 19 kills and wound up with 21 points on top of 14 digs, a huge follow-up to her 35-point explosion in a five-set win in the opening match of the best-of three series.
Jules Samonte had 16 points off 10 attacks, four blocks and two aces, while skipper Ponggay Gaston and rookie Joan Narit contributed 12 markers each.
Jaja Maraguinot had 22 excellent sets and scored four points as the Lady Eagles stopped the Lady Blazers in an hour and 46 minutes.
Rookie Gayle Pascual was the lone Lady Blazer to score in double figures with 11 points as top scorer Klarisa Abriam only played in the first two sets, finishing with six points.
St. Benilde was the lone NCAA squad to enter the semifinals, and stretched eventual champion Adamson to three matches in the semifinals.
Ateneo won four of five matches in the eliminations but fell to University of Santo Tomas in the rubber match of their best-of-three semifinal series.
