FAITH Nisperos continued her fine play and Ateneo moved closer to the PVL Collegiate Conference finals with a 25-15, 26-28, 25-16, 25-18 victory over University of Santo Tomas on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles rookie had 19 points off 15 attacks, three aces and a block, while making 14 digs as Ateneo took the first match of the best-of-three semifinal series.
Erika Raagas had 15 kills and finished with 16 points, while Vanie Gandler added 15 points while making eight excellent receptions in the one-hour and 58-minute match.
The Lady Eagles were without skipper Ponggay Gaston and rookie libero Roma Mae Doromal, who are seeing action in the UAAP women’s beach volleyball tournament.
Jules Samonte scored seven, Dani Ravena made 30 digs and 15 excellent receptions, while Jaja Maraguinot had 21 excellent sets on top of six points.
“I give it to the players, they really want it today. Kumbaga parang, sabi ko nga, it's not about everything, anything else, it's about acknowledging what you can do,” said Ateneo head coach Oliver Almadro. “Everybody contributed and may factor rin 'yung trust nila sa isa't isa.”
Ateneo tries to sweep UST on Wednesday, eyeing its first collegiate conference finals appearance in the PVL.
Eya Laure led the Tigresses with 14 points, 14 digs and 10 excellent receptions, while sister EJ had 11 markers and 10 receives.
