FAITH Nisperos hasn’t had the best run of form as of late, with her dwindling scoring numbers for the Akari Chargers in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference reflecting her on-court struggles.
The former Ateneo captain played seven of Akari’s eight matches to date but has only produced 5.3 markers on average — her best showing being a 12-point output in a straight-sets loss to league leader Choco Mucho.
Nisperos came off the bench and had four points in the Chargers’ third win of the season which effectively knocked cellar-dwelling Galeries Tower out of semifinals contention.
Nisperos hopes to make the most of playing time
Given that Nisperos was unable to pick up lengthy minutes, the entire encounter may have been bittersweet for her. Being a starter or a second stringer won't matter to the Akari ace, though, as she's eager to maximize every moment she has on the court.
“Right now, I didn’t start which is our coaches’ decision and it’s something that I can’t control, but what I can control is what I can do pagdating ko sa loob ng court.
“Ang motivation ko is basta every time na I’ll be inside, I’ll contribute to the best of my abilities and magkamali ‘man, it’s okay, it’s part of the game, tuloy lang,” Nisperos said.
Akari still fighting for Final 4 spots
Albeit slim, the Final Four is still within reach for the 3-5 (win-loss) Chargers. With only three prelims games left, Nisperos hopes that more signs of growth will still emerge ahead of their final push for a playoff spot.
“As a team, we just wanted to show 'yung improvement namin. We need to train ourselves para mag-improve and that is what we need in order to win. So as long as we're improving, 'yun muna 'yung panghahawakan namin as a team,” said Nisperos.
