    Faith Nisperos' career-high 35 points help Ateneo survive gritty CSB stand

    FAITH Nisperos erupted for a career-best 35 points to help Ateneo survive an upset-conscious College of Saint Benilde, 22-25, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24, 15-11, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 3 Collegiate Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.

    Nisperos was simply unstoppable with 29 kills, four service aces and two blocks as she led the Lady Eagles from a 1-2 match disadvantage to within a win of wrapping up the bronze medal.

    Joan Narit added 10 points and capped Ateneo’s comeback from a 16-21 fourth-set deficit. Ponggay Gaston also had 10 markers and 15 excellent receptions, while Erika Raagas added nine points.

    “Faith naman is really a talented player, pero there are times pa rin na she's looking for a leader. But sabi ko nga, you just have to do your job,” said Ateneo head coach Oliver Almadro.

    “If you can be a leader, if you want to take charge, it's okay. What's important is you know your job and you accept it.”

    Sophomore setter Jaja Maraguinot dished out 33 excellent sets while libero Dani Ravena had 16 digs.

    Five players ended up in double figures in digging for the Lady Eagles, who can clinch third place in Game Two on Saturday at 9 a.m.

    Klarisa Abriam led the Lady Blazers with 23 points. Gayle Pascual had 20 points and as many as digs, while Marites Pablo added 11 markers and 33 excellent receptions.
