UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas swept San Beda University, 25-18, 25-16, 25-21, to gain a share of the lead in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Incoming freshman Eya Laure scored 14 and Fil-Italian Milena Alessandrini added 11 points as UST improved to 3-0 to tie Far Eastern University on top.
The Tigresses have yet to drop a set in three matches against NCAA teams, and coach Kungfu Reyes is urging the Tigresses, especially the rookies, to work harder to extend the run.
“’Yun ang pilit naming ibinibuild sa mga rookies na sa papel lang sila rookie, ang tagal na nilang naglalaro on a high level especially noong high school nila. ‘Yung iba nag-UAAP, nag-Palaro,” said Reyes.
“‘Yung mga ganoong instances wine-welcome naman namin ‘yun syempre. Mas gusto namin makita ‘yung kaya naming makipagsabayan doon sa mga UAAP teams,” said Reyes.
“Para ma-test din namin ‘yung ano ‘yung kung hanggang saan ang character ng players namin,” he added.
Nieza Viray scored 17 for San Beda, which slid to 0-2 and share the bottom with San Sebastian College and College of St. Benilde.
