CREAMLINE spent the last seven years cementing its longstanding reputation as the PVL’s most successful franchise.

Having produced eight MVPs over in its 10 title runs topped by the sport’s first ever Grand Slam, safe to say the Cool Smashers are second to none through years and seasons past.

That’s not to say that they’re by any means a perfect team.

Even the league’s yardstick when it comes to success had its fair share of hiccups and missteps, and its year-ending five-set escape against erstwhile cellar-dweller ZUS Coffee was proof.

It was a two-hour, 27-minute marathon which saw the Cool Smashers fire 33 unforced errors and break the doors open for the young Thunderbelles to go toe-to-toe with the defending champions.

Cool Smashers Cool Down

With a month-long holiday break before the conference’s final four-month stretch, Creamline skipper Alyssa Valdez continues to keep her head held high on a historic yet still imperfect year that was.

“One of the things na very evident siguro in today’s game is ‘yung [bagal ng] pacing namin and errors. We have to contain and minimize our errors talaga , I guess we have to make sure na double time talaga kami sa practice and very detailed din,” said Valdez.

“For sure, nakita rin ‘yun ng mga coaches namin and ‘yun din ‘yung ia-address namin sa practice [after the break]. We’ll take this win today and celebrate this win with our loved ones this holiday, and get back to work again.”

Newly-minted Reinforced Conference MVP Bernadeth Pons also pointed out how Creamline’s offseason camps in Japan and Taiwan gave them a much-needed reality check that they still aren’t a perfect team, by any means, regardless of their championship stature.

“Malaking bagay ‘yung naging experience namin training camp sa Taiwan and tune-up game namin before mag-start ‘yung conference against the Japan team.

Pons added, “Sobrang laking tulong din samin ‘yun na parang pina-feel samin nung Japan na marami pa kaming kailangan trabahuin.”
