WITH three promising imports on hand, Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses still thinks it won’t be too tough a call on who they’ll tap for the PVL’s next Reinforced Conference.
While nothing is set in stone, Meneses is opting to stick to his guns and hope that the Cool Smashers can still bring back its champion import Erica Staunton over Russian winger Anastasiya Kudryashova and Kazakh middle blocker Anastassiya Kolomoyets.

“Medyo matagal pa kasi yung Reinforced, mas marami pang mga choices. Sana makakuha kami ng maganda kung available man yung gusto namin, especially Erica [Staunton],” said Meneses.
“Makuha [sana] namin si Erica [kung] available siya sa October.”
The soft-spoken coach made a firm assertion on how choosing their next reinforcement is not his or the team’s top priority after bowing out of the Asian tilt.
“Wala pa sa bokabularyo namin ang pagpili ng import. Ang focus lang namin after nitong AVC is ma-karest talaga ang mga players namin,” the seven-time PVL champion coach said.
For her part, the former PVL best outside spiker normed 9.33 points in Creamline’s three AVC matches which had a win over Jordan’s Al Naser Club and twin losses to Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu and Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima in the quarterfinals.
Staunton’s 28-point total output was the most by any Cool Smasher in the tournament.
But looking ahead on what’s to come, may it be with or without Staunton, the only thing that matters for Meneses is to continue elevating the level of play that the country’s most successful squad is capable of.

“Hopefully, maging lesson din sa amin ‘to […] at sana yung Creamline, tumaas pa lalo yung level at makasabay sa international volleyball.”
