PERLAS skipper Dzi Gervacio declared herself as 'Public Enemy No. 1' after her emphatic 'facial' on Creamline star Alyssa Valdez during the two teams' debut in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Perlas was leading, 13-8, in the first set when Gervacio hit the ball off a perfect set from veteran playmaker Jem Ferrer that hit Valdez in the face as she attempted to receive from the back row.
The former three-time UAAP MVP fell on her back and took a while to shake off the impact.
"I really thought it was going out kasi flat ball ata siya. I just hit it hard, and then, 'Okay, outside siya'" recalled Gervacio after the game.
"And then parang pag-ganun (baba from block) nung isang tao, it was Alyssa behind her tapos sakto (sa mukha niya)."
Gervacio extended both her arms toward Valdez after the play as if trying to apologize to her former teammate at Ateneo.
"Ayun, public enemy No. 1 ako. I didn't see it coming din, na it was going inside pa," she added.
Valdez, however, was quick to give her former teammate an assurance, saying she loves Gervacio and that her 'public enemy no. 1' fears are unwarranted.
Perlas won the match, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.
