THERE’s no settling for less after Deanna Wong and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans' breakthrough Finals appearance last season.
Coming off the club’s first-ever Premier Volleyball League (PVL) podium finish, Wong vowed the club won't be lulled into complacency and, instead, will continue striving to be better.
“Siguro hindi kami nag-sstick dun sa kung ano ‘yung natapos namin [last conference], so we always start from scratch,” said Wong.

“Balik kami sa kung ano ‘yung kailangan naming gawin so we’re gonna keep on training and improve nga para siyempre next season, mas mataas pa ‘yung goals na makukuha namin,” Deanna added.
The fan favorite is hoping the Flying Titans’ runner-up finish will serve as a stepping stone to championship gold.
“What we learned from the previous season, what we learned from the finals ay du’n kami nakakuha kung anong dapat naming i-improve. Same pa naman ‘yung training namin pero there are still things that need to improve and we need to work on,” Wong said.
Slowly settling in
While concurrently ‘working on other stuff’ in Choco Mucho’s offseason preparations, Wong has yet to play with new setter in Mars Alba. But she’s pleased with what the former F2 Logistics ace has shown thus far in training.
“Okay naman siya (Mars Alba). Hindi ko pa siya masyadong nakaka-work together, play together, kasi I’ve been doing other stuff. Pero nakikita ko naman siya and I can see what she’s capable of, so I think kaya niya mag-lead ng team at madala ‘yung team.”
Wong added: “[Our new signings] are learning to adapt sa system ni Coach Dante (Alinsunurin) pero siyempre may kailangan pang i-polish. Minsan ‘di nila nakukuha, minsan nakakalimutan nila, but nandun naman ‘yung ibang teammates para tulungan sila.”
