ALTHOUGH Choco Mucho and Creamline’s forthcoming PVL Finals is a first of its kind, it won’t necessarily be the first for the likes of former Ateneo aces Deanna Wong and Kat Tolentino against the Cool Smashers.
Styled as Ateneo-Motolite, the Blue Eagles reached the 2018 Open Conference Finals but failed to win a single set in two games to hand Creamline its second PVL title at the time.

However, a handful of things have changed since.
In that conference, the PVL only had eight clubs, Jia De Guzman won Finals MVP as Creamline’s lead setter, and Choco Mucho wasn’t even formed until a year later.
For Wong and then-best opposite spiker Tolentino, they may have long left their Ateneo days behind but the will to overcome a champion club like Creamline never wavered.
“That’s a different team. Choco Mucho is Choco Mucho. Ateneo is Ateneo. And that’s what I love about this team — it’s not about what school you came from. I think we’ve all come together and we’ve humbled ourselves because we all have a background, we all have accomplishments," said Tolentino.
“But the fact that we come together is really what makes this team so great. If we put aside our individuality and work together, it’s gonna be a different story with Choco Mucho (against Creamline),” she added.
“Pagdating kasi sa volleyball, nag-iiba siya every day, every week, every month, nag-iiba ‘yung sistema and nag-iiba ‘yung laro.
“Kita naman natin ‘yung sa Creamline, ilang beses na silang nakarating ng championship. Sabi nga ni ate Kat (Tolentino), magkaiba ‘yung Ateneo sa Choco Mucho. But again, we’re just really grateful na makalaban namin sila kasi siyempre marami kaming natutunan from them na ma-aapply namin (sa finals),” Wong added.
