SAVI Davison rescued PLDT from the jaws of defeat, denying Creamline a routinary finals trip with a 27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-10 comeback in the 2025 PVL on Tour knockout semifinals on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Davison erupted for 34 points, just one point shy of her PVL career-high, as High Speed Hitters advanced to their first-ever league final — a feat that eluded them even in their three-year stay in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) from 2018 to 2020.
The Fil-Canadian star scored eight points in the fifth set alone, including 5 of last 6 PLDT points as the High Speed Hitters won their seventh straight game.
Standing in the way of their bid for a maiden PVL title is a Chery Tiggo side eager to win its second championship after four long years on Sunday, still at the Big Dome.
PLDT has never set foot on a PVL podium prior to this preseason tournament after four failed semifinals campaigns in its four-year run in the pros to date.
Its last taste of a league podium was in the 2019 PSL Grand Prix where it took down Cignal in the bronze-medal game in five sets.
As for Creamline, its record streak of consecutive PVL Finals appearances has ended at seven straight conferences since 2023.
The Cool Smashers can still salvage another one of their unprecedented records if they take down Cignal in the bronze-medal game for an 18th successive podium finish.
