THE DAVAO Lady Agilas stunned the defending champion National University Lady Bulldogs, 25-20, 30-28, 14-25, 32-30, on Thursday to remain unscathed in three matches and secure a quarterfinal berth in the Shakey's V-League Season 11 First Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
May Agton scored 21 points, while Jocemer Tapic added 13 for the Lady Agilas, who playerd their third match in five days.
Team captain Venus Flores had 12 points and Angel Mae Antipuesto contributed 10 as the Davao selection handed NU its first loss after winning four straight.
The Lady Agilas managed to score crucial points by tipping the ball over the taller Lady Bulldogs, completing the match in almost two hours.
“Ang sabi ko sa kanila itaas ’yung bola sa blockers kasi malalaki sila (NU), instructions ko 'yun sa kanila na ganoon ang palo,” said Davao coach Shane Alagao.
“Actually hindi nga namin ine-expect na papasok kami ng quarterfinals," he added.
“Ang sabi ko lang sa mga bata i-enjoy lang ang game. Ok lang matalo tayo dito, basta mag-enjoy lang ang mga tao.”
The Lady Bulldogs looked set to even things after a quick third-set win and taking a 12-7 lead in the fourth.
But the Lady Agilas came up with a 13-6 run and took control, 20-18, before a long see-saw battle that ended when NU’s Ivy Perez committed a setting error.
Dindin Santiago came up with 18 points for NU, Aiko Urdas had 17, while Carmina Aganon and Myla Pablo had 12 each.
