CREAMLINE sent Air Force crashing back to earth with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 victory to secure at least a playoff for a semifinal berth in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan City.
Despite missing ace setter Jia Morado due to wisdom tooth extraction and limited minutes for star Alyssa Valdez, the Cool Smashers proved much too good to end the five-game winning streak of the Lady Jet Spikers.
Jema Galanza continued to step up for Creamline by unloading 18 attacks and three aces for 21 points laced with 18 digs and 10 excellent receptions.
Michele Gumabao delivered 15 points as the team stayed perfect through 11 games, just a win shy from securing the first semis berth.
Setter Kyle Negrito filled the void left by Morado, dishing out 24 excellent sets on top of five markers.
“It all boils down to preparation. Hindi naman kasi kami yung type na tumitingin sa standings so each and every game kung sino man yung katapat namin, same galaw, same preparation and same effort from our end,” said Gumabao.
Valdez, who returned to action from a right ankle injury but only played sparingly in the first and third set, was proud of the stellar showing.
“Ang daming nangyari sa team but at the end of the day, I appreciate all the efforts of my teammates kasi one hundred percent talaga sila sa training kahit may kulang,” she said. “Ang pinakamagandang nangyayari, kung ano yung tine-training nagagawa talaga sa game.”
Jozza Mae Cabalsa and Dell Palomata 10 and nine points, respectively, only for Air Force to drop to 5-6 win-loss in a tie for sixth place with Choco Mucho.
